Did you know that by giving back to your community, you have the chance to give to your college education too?

April is National Volunteer Month, and with that, we wanted to showcase scholarships opportunities for those students who like to lend a hand to others. Whether your passion is in building homes, tutoring or providing food for those in need, there is a scholarship that you could qualify for and potentially win.

Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes
Deadline: April 15, 2014
Available To: Students younger than 18
Amount: $2,500

The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes is open to students who have organized and led a community service project that benefitted others. To apply, students must be nominated by an adult that has witnessed their service efforts and is of no relation.

Nordstrom Scholarship Program
Deadline: May 1, 2014
Available To: High school juniors
Amount: $2,500

The Nordstrom Scholarship Program is open to high school juniors who participate in community service or volunteer projects and have at least a 2.7 GPA.

Bonner Scholar and Bonner Leader Programs
Deadline: Varies
Available To: First-year college students
Amount: Varies

The Bonner Scholar and Leader Programs provide scholarships to first-year college students who demonstrate an interest in community service and social justice issues as well as financial need. Available only at participating colleges, those in the Bonner Scholar and Leader Programs must complete 10 hours of community service each week.

CBC Spouses Education Scholarship
Deadline: June 5, 2014
Available To: Full-time undergraduate and graduate students
Amount: Varies

The CBC Spouses Education scholarship is available to students who are active in community service opportunities and who have at least a 2.5 GPA.

Asian Women in Business Scholarship
Deadline: September 15, 2014
Available To: Female college students
Amount: $2,500

The Asian Women in Business Scholarship is open to female college students of Asian or Pacific Islander ancestry. Applicants must demonstrate scholarship, leadership, community service and entrepreneurship.

HENAAC Scholars Program
Deadline: April 30, 2014
Available To: Undergraduate and graduate students
Amount: Varies

The HENAAC Scholars Program is open to students majoring in an engineering, technology, science or mathematics related field. Candidates must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, a strong commitment to the Hispanic community and leadership through academics and community service.

Do Something Grants
Deadline: Varies
Available To: Students 25 and under
Amount: $500

Do Something Grants are available to students age 25 and under who are interested in pursuing a social entrepreneurial venture. The grants, which are awarded once a week, are to be used as seed money for a new or existing project, program or organization.

Dunkin’ Donuts Scholarship
Deadline: April 15, 2014
Available To: High school seniors
Amount: $2,500

The Dunkin’ Donuts Scholarship is available to high school seniors in specified areas of New England as well as Philadelphia. Students must demonstrate academic achievement, leadership and community service.

ECRA Scholarship
Deadline: July 11, 2014
Available To: High school seniors
Amount: $1,000

The ECRA Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors that have made significant contributions to the betterment of their school and/or community.

CHCI Scholarship
Deadline: April 16, 2014
Available To: Full-time undergraduate and graduate students
Amount: $5,000

The CHCI Scholarship is open to students enrolled full-time in a community college, four-year university or graduate program. Applicants must display financial need and a history of performing service in their community.

AGA Community Service Scholarship
Deadline: April 18, 2014
Available To: Undergraduate or graduate students
Amount: $1,500

The AGA Community Service Scholarship is open to students who are actively involved in community service and have a GPA of at least 3.0.
